Biography, Tetsuya Mori
1992 | Graduated from Kyoto University and started to engage in developing functional and electronic materials at a major Japanese chemical manufacturer. |
2002 | Involved in a project to develop polymer optical waveguides based on proprietary technology from a US laboratory. He was instrumental in joint research with leading universities and enterprises, presented multiple papers at premier international conferences in Japan and the U.S., and filed many patent applications. |
2012 | Worked in the Corporate Planning Department, proposing solutions to various issues in the business units to the top management. He was exposed to the reality that many Japanese companies have been stagnant in growth for a long time, despite enjoying stable management. |
2014 | Frequently visited Silicon Valley and began to build a network there. Vigorously engaged in startup scouting and new business planning, mainly for the medical device and life science sectors, and often went directly to the top management to advocate bringing in disruptive innovations from outside. |
2015 | Earned a professional degree in MOT from the Technology Management School at Tokyo University of Science. Realized the potential of open innovation as a key to reviving the competitiveness of Japanese companies. |
2018 | Moved to Silicon Valley as CEO of a U.S. subsidiary. While managing the incumbent business in the electronic materials division, he was also instrumental in technology scouting across the globe. |
2021 | Returned to Tokyo in 2021 and founded Innovation EDGE Partners. |
2022 | Formed a business alliance with Emerald Technology Ventures, a Swiss-based global VC firm, and started providing new business development support to one of its LPs. |
